What Is Mai Kai & How Did We Get Here?
Well, Mai Kai Kava Lounge, in Athens, GA, is owned by AJ & Kourtney Ervine. Bringing their experience in business and their love for kava together, they created a chill place where all are welcome. This is their story…
Living in South Florida, together they owned and operated a professional service business.
One day, they stumbled upon a kava bar in downtown West Palm Beach, while socializing with some family and friends. The atmosphere and chill vibes combined with the cool people and soothing feelings from the kava drink, whirled together to make a relaxing experience they wouldn’t soon forget.
Kava quickly became a valued staple within their family and became popular at get-togethers. AJ & Kourtney witnessed the use of kava and kratom help to better the lives of members of their family – and found they loved being in the kava bar, enjoying the vibes and connections.
Their professional service business was doing well for 7 years, but they decided for a change of pace in life. This meant selling their business, packing up and moving near the beautiful Georgia mountains to be closer with loved ones and begin a new adventure – kava!
They wanted to bring alive an environment where everyone is welcome – where people can be soothed by friendly connections and the relaxing euphoric feelings of a kava beverage. So, the two set out to provide a positive space so that the people of Athens and surrounding areas could experience the many benefits of not only the kava, but also by feeling a part of a family-like community as their retreat to relax and chill or to focus on studying and schoolwork.
AJ & Kourtney have heard many stories of how kava and/or kratom have helped so many people with their lives, and they were eager to be a part of that and share it with others.
Athens, is the third location of Mai Kais, all independently owned by various family members – the first being in Gainesville, FL and the second in Blairsville, GA.
On August 30, 2021, Mai Kai Kava Lounge, Athens, opened its doors to share the kava culture with all who wander in, like you!

This place is great! Great products, knowledgeable and friendly staff, dog friendly, relaxed and fun environment. They have daily and weekly events as well including open mic, meditation, comedy, yoga…I plan to spend a lot of time here. Highly recommend!
